I bought some government published propaganda in Rangoon, and have transcribed some of it below. It is mostly banal stuff, but some of it is entertaining for conisseurs of bad propaganda.

Objectives of the State and National Causes

Foreign instigators Caught Red-Handed, an article from Myanmar Today

The People's Desires!, from an English-language billboard in Rangoon

Groups trade arms for peace, an article from Myanmar Today

Great stuff!

Several human rights groups have called for a boycott on travel to Myanmar (Burma) on the grounds that you are supporting the repressive Military by spending money there. I disagree with this position. It is remarkable how eager Burmese people are to discuss their distaste for the military, and I believe that hearing these stories is more important than keeping a few dollars from the government, which makes tons of money selling teak to the West anyways. Pepsi and Arco are both active in Burma, and have offices in Rangoon as of June 1999.
